SAP BW is dead, long live SAP BW … again and again and again

Today I want to follow up on my post about the SAP Business Unleashed event. A little more beef … 😉
The goody I found this week is a slide by SAP expert Matthias Stemmler under the headline ‘BW Modernisation’ – see above. It’s from a webinar on the SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC) at ISR Information Products AG.

Great, I love dogs and, as an ‘old’ SAP BW consultant, I’m very interested in the future of this tool.

Until now, 2040 was saved as the deadline of SAP BW in my mind, which is probably not in question. However, I definitely did not expect SAP to launch a modernisation offensive for BW: all development to date has gone into SAP Datasphere …

It seems that the importance of SAP BW in the analytics ecosystem of SAP customers is too great not to include it in the BDC. This means that BW InfoProviders can now also be used in the BDC as data products for the SAP Datasphere and SAP Databricks.
What a cool move that “reanimates” SAP BW – or rather BW/4HANA – allthough only in the Private Cloud Edition.

One distinction is still made ‘in the small print’: between relational modelling and analytic models. Here you will have to pay very close attention which of SAP BWs (meta-)data is required and how it is modelled in the BDC to fullfill the business needs.

However, I can’t get one question out of my head:
Everything that is modelled in SAP Business Data Cloud runs via US hyperscalers: Azure, AWS, Google!
Should we trust these services in the current political situation?

Have a nice weekend
