Who doesn&#8217;t know the song &#8216;Love will tear us apart&#8217;, which &#8211; unfortunately &#8211; became famous in Germany through Paul Young&#8217;s version.<br>In 1979, Joy Division released their debut album &#8216;Unknown Pleasures&#8217;, which is now regarded as a milestone in music history and introduced the post-punk era.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"654\" height=\"654\" src=\"https:\/\/www.graphomate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/schalplatte.jpg\" alt=\"Pulsar-Visualisierungen und Schallplatte\" class=\"wp-image-21789\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.graphomate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/schalplatte.jpg 654w, https:\/\/www.graphomate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/schalplatte-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.graphomate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/schalplatte-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 654px) 100vw, 654px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">pulsar visualization and vinyl<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The cover of Unknown Pleasures shows \u2018A stacked series of jagged lines displayed incoming radio waves from pulsar CP1919 [&#8230;] A pulsar is a rapidly rotating neutron star that emits a radio-frequency beam that sweeps through space like a lighthouse beacon.\u2019<br>Harold D. Craft Jr. &#8211; a student at the Arecibo Radio Observatory in Puerto Rico &#8211; published the visualisation in 1970 as part of his PhD.<br><br>At the end of the 1970s, guitarist Bernard Sumner found the graphic in \u2018The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Astronomy\u2019 in a library in Manchester and, together with Peter Saville, created this iconic album cover.<br><br>The legacy of the design still holds strong.
